Mandi Berry is one of a dozen students in the graduate program and one of approximately 50 in the department. She came to Baylor because of the program's reputation and is in her second year of the two-year program.
Mandi is a graduate assistant in the museum's education area. She assists with writing educational and public programs for the Complex and was able to do the same at her internship this summer with The Smithsonian Associates in Washington, D.C.
"When you think about education, you have to think about how people learn, and there are so many different ways to learn," Mandi says. Volunteers use her research on Columbian mammoths to give visitors information about the Waco Mammoth Site replication in Mayborn.
Mandi says she wants to see how visitors respond to exhibits. "People bring their own experiences in, so they take things from a visit that you may not plan on," she says. Her undergraduate degree is in history, and because the Mayborn exhibits include cultural history, she'll have many more opportunities to expand on her interests.
After graduation Trey plans to continue his education and hopes to stay at Baylor. "I want to stay here because it's so good, and it's one of the best in Texas, if not the country."
