| Eddie Bauer is coming in from the outdoors. It sells sportswear, outerwear, and footwear for men, women, and children, as well as home furnishings, through about 425 retail and outlet stores in the Canada, Germany, Japan, and the US. It also sells its products online and through catalogs. Apparel accounts for 85% of sales. Licenses have extended the name to Ford SUVs, eyewear, bicycles, sunglasses, baby products, and furniture. Parent Spiegel acquired Eddie Bauer in 1988, but bankruptcy proceedings forced the possible sale of the company in 2004; Spiegel later pulled it off of the auction block, though it has not ruled out a future sale. In early 2005 Eddie Bauer announced the closure of about 25 stores. |
