| Fashion designer, born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA. He began his New York fashion career in 1946, joining Maurice Rentner Ltd in 1959. He gained recognition, produced his own label, and in 1970 bought the company renaming it Bill Blass Ltd. He created high-priced, beautifully cut and tailored women's wear notable for its inventive combinations of patterns and textures. Among his many honours were seven Coty Awards and the Fashion Institute of Technology's Lifetime Achievement Award (1999). |
