It has been difficult to adjust to the idea that something I planned for so long is now in the past. I'm trying to keep perspective. It seems like everybody has a gold medal because that's what you see on television. In reality, one person in the world per event is the only one with a gold medal. Many talented people didn't make it this far to be in the Olympic Finals. There were even some potential medalists who were eliminated from the hunt at our Olympic Trials. I am both talented and lucky.
I went to the Olympic Closing Ceremonies last night. In the program they had representatives from Beijing, the host in 2008, who gave sort of a preview of the Olympics in China. It will definitely be something to look forward to. I have four more meets left in my season, then I will finally get to go home, take a month off training and then start back again.
I am surprised that junk food isn't more satisfying. It just makes me feel sluggish. I think I will go back to eating normally. I guess this sport is a lifestyle after all, not an occupation.
